International Day of People with Disabilities

I sit, in the days leading up to today, every year trying to find the words, trying to express myself and trying to educate. It’s not easy!

Ultimately, my message will always remain the same… despite whatever the last week, month, year or life in general has thrown up, today is a day to be proud! In fact you should be proud everyday! A disability, whatever kind, visible or invisible is not something to be ashamed of... Be Proud! Embrace it! It can be hard sometimes to not get frustrated when there are things that are harder to do, need to be adapted or just not possible. I face these frustrations myself, and sometimes forget to be proud of myself but it’s really important to remember that it’s ok to feel this way as long as you then move forward and use the frustrations for positive change.

No matter what barriers we face whether with disability or not, we must remember to work together to achieve the best for everyone. Society and disability have come along way but there’s still a long way to go. We only have one life and we must live it, smile, have fun and be proud of ourselves! Achievements are something we should celebrate however small they may be and having a disability and overcoming barriers often on a daily basis is no different and should be recognised.

I have amazing friends and family around me who support and encourage me 🥰 but not everyone out there is that lucky, I hope that today, as with every year I reflect on this day, everyone will show support to others as we’re all in this world together and should be working for equality and inclusivity for all. 🥰♿️💖
