Today marks the end of an era…
As FIPFA Congress 2024 comes to a close, so does my 19-year journey with Powerchair Football—a connection that has shaped much of my life since it began in 2005.
It all started when I was invited to try out this exciting new sport. From the very first moment, I knew it was something special. I played until 2011, cherishing the joy and camaraderie it brought.
In 2014, after graduating from university, I transitioned from player to administrator, taking on the role of National League Secretary for the Wheelchair Football Association. This was my first opportunity to contribute from behind the scenes, helping shape the sport I loved. By the time I stepped away from the role in 2018, the league had grown into a thriving competition —one that continues to flourish today.
In 2019, I took what felt like a full-circle step by joining FIPFA, the sport's international federation. These past four years have brought challenges — most notably navigating the impact of a global pandemic — but also immense progress. Seeing the sport grow and being part of organizing the hugely successful 2023 World Cup was an incredible privilege.
As this chapter closes, I feel proud and grateful to have been part of such a remarkable sport and, even more so, its amazing community. Powerchair Football has given me lifelong friends, unforgettable memories, and experiences that I will always treasure.
Thank you to everyone I’ve had the pleasure of working with, playing alongside, and supporting throughout this journey. I’ll be cheering from the sidelines, always. 💙
