October 6th • WORLD CEREBRAL PALSY DAY 💚
When people ask about my disability and why I use a wheelchair, I tell them I have Cerebral Palsy (CP). The next question I often hear is, "What is that, and how does it affect you?" So today, like every year on this day, I take a moment to raise awareness!
I like to explain it in a way that’s easy for anyone to understand, including kids. Think of our brains as having lots of telephone wires that send signals to our arms and legs, telling them how and when to move. My wires are a bit tangled, so sometimes those signals are delayed or don’t come through at all. That’s why I can’t walk and use a wheelchair, and why I also need some help with my arms and hands for certain tasks.
There are millions of people around the world with CP, and each of us is unique. That’s why this year’s theme is #UniquelyCP - because every person’s experience with CP is different, and together we represent a powerful reason to push for change and celebrate diversity.
I’m proud of the life I live and the role I play in showing the world that CP doesn’t define me. Instead, it shapes the things I care about and fuels the changes I hope to see - not just for myself, but for future generations living with Cerebral Palsy too 💚.
